The games I'm building
I want to kick this off with a quick tour of what I am actually working on, because right now I have two games in active development and a handful more ideas that refuse to leave me alone.
Kinhold is the one taking my time at the moment, a third-person survival and settlement-building game set in a world where nothing is scenery. Every stone, tree, and metre of soil is a resource, and your villagers can only take what you have found first. You raise them from children through death, arm them, send them out to explore, and build a settlement that outlives them. You are the only one here who does not age, which sounds like an advantage right up until you meet the things out there that would like to test whether you can die. It can be played solo or with a second player in co-op.
Weasel Wrecking Co is the other one on my desk, a demolition contract game set in a world built from voxels, every one of which can be destroyed, the ground included. You take a contract, place a limited amount of charges, use cutting tools and manipulate the environment, press the plunger once, and watch the collapse cascade while the damage tallies in dollars. The pitch has not changed since the name: you can always weasel your way out of a proper job, you just blow it all up!
Future projects
The rest are further out, but I want them on the radar.
The Corruption of Wrenmoor is a big one, a single player RPG set in a world that is slowly being eaten alive. Long ago two wizards and their mighty armies tore the land apart in a cataclysmic final battle, and the corruption they left behind has started seeping back up out of the ground. The corruption has spread, and now it can surface anywhere, in the mountains, the forests, or a quiet little town, and nobody knows what causes it or where it will spread next. That creeping uncertainty is the heart of the game, and building a world that feels like it is quietly running out of time has been my favorite part so far. Oh, and lets not forget that YOU can become corrupted too, unlocking different paths and playstyles.
Ashlar Keep is a change of pace, a multiplayer realm and castle sim. You gather resources, expand and upgrade your Keep, and send your soldiers out to grind down your rivals. The catch is that everyone else is trying to do the same thing to you, so a Keep is never truly safe. I want it to reward the careful builder and the player who would rather just knock the whole thing down, and getting that balance to feel fair is what I am chipping away at right now.
Delve & Deliver is a multiplayer turn based dungeon roguelike where you and up to two friends drop into dungeon after dungeon. The deeper you go, the better the loot you get to haul home, and everything you earn feeds back into your custom characters. There are two ways to play: a daily dungeon that hands everyone the same limited options, or freeplay where your own builds get to shine. Four races, five classes, and a very healthy pile of loot should leave plenty of room to find a combo that clicks.
The Blowout shares Weasel Wrecking Co’s love of chaos, a single player car destruction game for anyone who enjoys a good crash and an even bigger explosion.
None of these have much to show yet, but they will get their own posts once they take shape.
Every project will be available on GitHub once it reaches a somewhat playable state, so you will be able to dig into any of them as they come together. More soon. I will be posting here as each project moves forward, so check back for the updates as they land.
